The Story of What’s on Your Plate
What’s on Your Plate began as more than just a name—it was a hashtag inspired by Pastor Timothy D. Hayes, Jr.’s travels to high-end restaurants and hidden gems you couldn’t miss while in town. In 2015, Pastor Hayes brought his love for food home, selling plates right from his kitchen. The business grew rapidly, but one busy Friday, rushing to meet orders, Pastor Hayes accidentally set the kitchen on fire.
After stepping back to regroup, Pastor Hayes reopened What’s on Your Plate in 2022 as a brick-and-mortar restaurant on the Kansas side of Kansas City. The response was overwhelming, leading to the launch of a food truck on the Missouri side just seven months later. Four months after that, he expanded with buildings on both the Kansas and Missouri sides of the state line.
Today, What’s on Your Plate focuses on catering and lunch orders, bringing people together with signature dishes made with love and excellence. From humble beginnings to a thriving business, What’s on Your Plate continues to serve the community with flavor and passion.
